'Let
your LIGHT SHINE so that people would see your good works,
and glorify your Father in Heaven'... "Jesus" (paraphrase
from St. Matthew 5:16)
'LIGHTSHINE'
was created to give YOU an opportunity to help children
with great needs and no voice...
orphans.
Lightshine
is actually two 'sister' organizations. The first
Lightshine is a non-profit entity approved by the IRS under
Section 501(c)(3), allowing donors to claim a deduction for
charitable gifts and donations. The primary focus of
Lightshine is to provide a means to assist the truly
helpless and needy: orphans in areas of poverty such as
Latin America. In past years Lightshine has provided relief
to orphans in Romania, Nicaragua and, most recently, Peru.
The second entity, Lightshine Adoption Agency, is also a
Washington non-profit corporation, with the primary purpose
of finding healthy homes for placement of orphaned
children. Lightshine Adoption Agency is licensed by the
State of Washington as a Child Placement Agency.
Lightshine's founder, Paul Eklund, has facilitated
adoptions (as an attorney) for children from Romania,
China, and Russia. He has also represented parents
requesting adoptions from Peru.
Lightshine (the foundation) and Lightshine Adoption Agency
are separate entities, but working together to provide
relief for orphans and other needy children in Latin
America, primarily Peru and Nicaragua. The Congress of Peru
has given Lightshine an official invitation to work with
the state-run orphanages (Aldeas Infantiles). Lightshine
also works with church-sponsored orphanages in Peru.
Initially basic relief such as food, vitamins and clothing
is provided to children lacking these essentials.
Lightshine has also provided education, sending personnel
to teach reading (in Spanish), and training the children in
life skills and Christian values. Lightshine has also
facilitated health care, for the medical and dental needs
of impoverished and orphaned children. This relief has come
in the form of funds to pay for surgeries and dental work,
and also by facilitating visits by health care
professionals from North America to Latin America.
